Allapattah is a mostly residential neighborhood in Miami, Florida. The area is located south of Liberty City and around a ten-minute drive from Downtown Miami along the I-95S. The Allapattah neighborhood is known for its textile industry as well as one of the largest fresh produce markets in Miami. As one of the oldest communities in the Miami area, Allapattah has predominantly older residential properties that feature iconic colonial designs.


The name Allapattah comes from the Seminole Indian language and means alligator. Like most neighborhoods in Miami, Allapattah’s roots go back to homestead settlements that were established in the mid-1800s. Over the intervening years, developments like the arrival of the Florida East Coast Railroad and the construction of the I-95 reshaped the area into the current version of Allapattah. Today, the neighborhood continues to transform as changes in the Miami metropolitan city continue to trickle in and transform it into a more modern blend of residential and commercial properties.


Allapattah has a racial makeup of 72.23% Hispanic, 18.33% African American, 6.89% Caucasian, and 2.55% other races. Within these demographics, Allapattah has a male population of 48.74%, while the female population in just over 51%. The median age in Allapattah is 33.9 for males and 36 for females. Households in Allapattah have, on average, 2.8 people with married-couple families accounting for around 36% of all households.
